Ascent Outdoors is known for a long-standing reputation (since 1996!) as the friendly and trusted experts in the Seattle outdoors community. The staff serve as a helpful resource for hikers, climbers, skiers, mountaineers, and many other outdoorspeople from all experience levels and walks of life. Ascent Outdoors curates its gear selection based on the knowledge and experiences of staff and guides and makes buying decisions based on the needs and tastes of the Seattle outdoors community. As a brand, Ascent Outdoors is dedicated to giving back to the outdoors and the local area through sharing our knowledge, hosting events and fundraisers in partnership with equity-centered and educational groups, and donating to like-minded organizations fostering outdoors conservation and accessibility.

My Role: As Director of Communications and Business Strategy for Ascent Outdoors, LLC (a business group that included Ascent Outdoors, Tacoma Bike, Miyar Adventures, and Fisherman’s Marine and Outdoors), I ensured that all businesses operated with aligned communications, marketing, and strategic development. I built and managed multiple local and remote teams, including Customer Service, Web Development, Events, eCommerce Growth, and Internal Communications, while directing and facilitating the research and implementation of customer-centered business processes and solutions.

Additionally, I led the local marketing team in the creation of campaigns, events, and promotions in adherence with the seasonal marketing and social media calendar and contributed to asset and content development for eCommerce, email, and SMS marketing efforts.

Impact: During my tenure at Ascent Outdoors, I developed the company’s Mission, Vision, and Values, as well as a comprehensive set of company procedures and policies centered around employee and customer-focused strategies. These included Customer Service communications and decision trees, external communication and brand templates, and employee onboarding and training processes.

I was also responsible for researching and implementing eCommerce apps, customer programs, and website development solutions that elevated the consumer experience while integrating the company’s Mission, Vision, and Values. My efforts in optimizing digital tools, streamlining business operations, and enhancing customer engagement contributed to the company’s growth and strengthened its role as a trusted leader in the local outdoor community.
